So anyone else signed up for the new SKY HD offer of £49 + £30 installation (for current customers) ?.

I was a bit gutted to get the email back to say it should be installed in the next 2 months frown

I signed up on the day it was out, and got an installation about a week later. They might better the initial install date after you register your interest, but i guess it depends on local demand.

It is very good btw. especially if you get the movies and sport. Trouble is it shows up how bad some SD broadcasts are and can make watching them quite a bit less enjoyable...

Ring them back and say you don't want to wait and you will go with Virgin instead.

They will be there next week.

Seriously.

Got my HD box 2 days ago under the new offer.

SD picture quality doesn't seem as good as my old Sky+ box though.

Thats interesting. I am guessing it just looks bad as you are getting used to HD!

You don't realise how flat SD looks until you watch a film in HD then switch over to watch another channel.

+ 1. Makes you think your tv is broken when you switch back to SD after watching the same movie in HD!

Just registered for Sky HD a minute or two ago, hopefully they won't take weeks to fit it!

I ordered mine at the end of November - just after the last cut-price deal was going on.

It was installed at the end of last month.

Two weeks later they started the deal again...

fk my luck!

I would contact them to express your displeasure. The top man from Sky was on the radio on the launch day of the current offer and he said that customers who had recently upgraded would not be left out of pocket. You might not get the full difference back, but you might get a percentage. Got to be worth a try?

ours was on order about 4 weeks ago and on the day of the install I saw the new price drop, I called them up and asked for the new deal price. They told me I would have to cancel my order and go back ont he waiting list, when I then asked to be disconnected from SKY fullstop they then reverted their decision and gave me £80 back!

Playing the devil's advocate, in a former life working in PC World I saw the most eloquent 'put back in place' of a shouting customer who was furious that the PC he bought last week was now £100 cheaper, and demanding that he would not leave the store until he got his £100.

If the price was more expensive now than when you bought it, what would you say if PC World asked you for £100 more on your visit today...?

He gave up there and then and apologised.

That said, screw Sky over. They have a monopoly in many areas and this affords them **** customer service on most occasions.

However, tell them they will lose their £££ and they will part the Red Sea and get an engineer to you with free stuff on a magic carpet rather than see you connect to Virgin.

I had an original estimate of 4 months before I could complete the order, with the added statement to the effect of 'don't bother ringing us, we have already quoted the best delivery date...', one week later I got a follow up e-mail saying the time had reduced to 4-6 weeks, then later the same day another e-mail saying I could order immediately and installation could be any time the next week. Eventually, the process was completed within 2 weeks and could have been a few days quicker.

I ordered last Wednesday (11th) and got an email today saying they expect to complete my order in 2 months time.

Hopefully that will come down a bit!

I only ordered mine 2 days before that, and was told 2 months too... seems they maybe over estimated... by the time installation happens Sunday I wont have waited 2 weeks...

Sky are having to replace 90,000 Pace HD boxes, so it might end up being 2 months after all for me!

I am pretty sure that I know what this is.

About 6 months ago our HD box was replaced after being about 18 months old as the picture of some channels degraded over time to the point some would not work. The tech department said this was a known and common problem.

However, to fix it, it would be £70 plus the cost of a new box!

I told them to get stuffed and ended up with a Thomson one instead replaced for free. I guess a lot of the older Pace boxes have gone the same way...
