Is there anything? Seems the only option may be to get a 35" computer screen and hook it up to a separate tuner...

you have a choice of 33, 34, 35 or 36.

I prefer 33 because 33 is the largest positive integer that can not be expressed as a sum of different triangular numbers

also, if you do 1! + 2! + 3! + 4! then that = 33.

so its a pretty nice number.

Buy the 37". Then measure it with a very, very hot measuring tape (wear oven gloves!) in front of the wife to "prove" that it's actually smaller than 37"

He could shrink a plastic tape as above or just measure accross the way rather than diagonal (Hide the 37" box first though!)

I bet once the 37" screen is in place it would look fine (esp if they are going from a bulky CRT)

The other thing to try is this
http://www.dtvcity.com/lcdtv/lcdscreensize.html

As if they are going HD its better to sit closer.

Actually the size stated is usually somewhat irrelevant most of the time. I've seen 32" screens with massive bezels and speakers built into the sides that are physically bigger than other 37" devices.

I didnt get away with a 37" screen so went for the 32". However, I would suggest not making an issue of the size as when you are in the store (go to one even if your buying online) the 37" will look reasonable, as a the 42" and 50" screens will make the 37" look smaller.

Definitely true, my 50 looked massive in the shop but looks just right in my living room. I've offered him a loan of my 32 so his wife can see how small it looks. Their sofa is 4m away from where the tv's going, the 32 will seem tiny!

At 13ft from a 32" screen all resolutions will look identical.

If he's buying a new television for HD purposes, it is pointless.

big is best when it come to TV sizing, forget the crap some so called experts give you, 10 years ago 26" is all you need, go to a hi spec THX (Tomlinson Holman's eXperiment) acredited 70mm cinnamar look at the screen put your finger up each side inline with the screen then go home and do the same move closer to the screen untill thay are in aproxamatley in the same position if you can touch the screen or you are not in your preferd seat you need a bigger TV simple
this an opinion only I will take no responsibility for arguments with the wife
