I think I have something that does this job. It's called a PC, and it also plays DVD, Blu-Ray and takes care of my Freeview/PVR needs.

Unless this is very, very cheap, I'm not seeing the point?

This kind of product is ok if you live within it's limited capabilities. A 160Gb HDD is small by today's standards and expansion is likely to prove difficult.

IMO you would be much better looking at a streaming solution as offered by a Logitech (Squeezebox), Sonus, MacMini/iTouch.

I looked at doing the distribution on this product as there are audiophile versions of it. This was 3 years ago and there are better options out there now. it's still a great product.

Also marketed as the Olive.

Transporter is a better product, all things considered.

Must me honest and say there are better products out there.

It has a built in database? Great.

But, I don't want to be having to connect it all up and hope my new CD is on their new updated database each and every time I buy a new CD.

My advice would be to get something which stores in a standard format, is software based and is easily use expandable. The game is moving fast at the moment and something which is 3 years old is ancient unless you can do all that.

My choice is a Mac Mini. It does all of the above and more.

I have a pc set up but the wife hates it as its not simple, a custom built system will sell

Fair point. My media install passed the wife test on ease of use and the fact it was one box replacing 4 boxes...

...having said that, I'm currently enjoying HDCP issues. That's tonights little challenge.
