I had a call from the ex yesterday about a problem with her TV.

When she's watching her new LCD TV and the combi boiler upstairs fires up it causes the picture to freeze in areas of the screen, sometimes just the odd pixel but sometimes a section of the screen about the size of a Mars bar. Since this started happening she's noticed that the portable in her bedroom is also affected similarly. The TV in the living room has built in freeview and the portable just receives analogue channels so no Sky/Virgin set top boxes to consider.
Prior to getting the new telly she had a CRT with a Virgin box attached and didn't notice this.

So does anyone know why this might be happening and how it might be sorted out ? I imagine it's either the boiler sending some sort of interference through the ring main or it's affecting the signal through the aerial somehow. If the former would a good surge-protected extension cable help ?

Cheers in advance.

When boilers kick in they generate a spark that can cause this, i get it when someone turns the shower on & off! As for a fix if the aerial is giving good signal already then i don't think there is a lot you can do. I know our aerial is 100% as i can see the transmitter from my window and all the cabling etc is new.

I've just remembered that I used to have a small plug-in device that went in the aerial socket at the back of the telly and cut out interference - I'll mention it next time I speak to her.

Ta for the reply.
