IPod, transferring music

I bought a fair bit of stuff on Itunes but on the PC, I put them on an external storage and moved them to my laptop,
Now it wont play the music because "the original file could not be found"

I can't mate my Ipod to the PC because its been linked to the parents Ipod.

Is there a way to transfer it without having to buy it again?

Could the files not be protected at all? One way I would recommend although a little sneaky would be to play the file and record it with some software and simply save an mp3 copy to your intended location. Job done!!

Thanks, I'll try that! I'll be gutted if I've wasted my money and now my parents are stuck with Take That et al.
