well rule of thumb used to be get plasma for big screen and lcd for small screen, but that was awhile back, general opinion (amongst my comrades) is that their is not much difference between the two technologies.

I think most things are going LCD now from the little I know. They used to stop LCD at 32" as it was technically hard to make them bigger, but that's been overcome now. I think LCD last longer as well, but may be wrong

I've got a 40" Samsung LCD, and I'm more than happy with it.

I have a 42" Samsung plasma and my parents have a newer 42" Samsung LCD. I swear the picture quality on my plasma is a lot better!

Anything 40"+ I would go for a Plasma.

I think Plasma generally gives better contrast and LCD gives better image definition. Plasmas seem to be dying out though, you can get 52 inch LCDs for a grand these days.

LCDs use (a lot) less power, if you care. LCDs are also quite a lot lighter, which I suppose might matter if you want to hang it.

We have a 42" LCD and it's fine. Go plasma if your room isn't that big but you still want a big TV.

Measure distance from nearest viewing seat to TV then use this as a guide when looking at TV's if LCD looks pixalated at that distance it's probably going to be too big (and you then get a Plasma.)

General rule of thumb is up to and including 32 inches, LCD, anything over 32 go for Plasma. The picture can get a bit grainy on larger sized LCD's.

Plasma does give better contrast, but with motion images Plasma wins on image definition as well. LCD wins on static image display though, which is useful, for a television.

I'm happily running a 40" LCD Samsung and there is no pixelisation as such. The LCD panels have come along way recently.

So you'd agree with those above recommending the Samsung 42" Plasma, Plotty?

Yes.

In the same way I'd agree with voting labour, turning vegetarian and supporting the fox hunting ban.

You're just not the same since you quit smoking and started campaigning for stricter drug laws.
