As per the title. It's been a very long time since I had a surround sound system and the tech has changed and everything seems to be Dolby Atmos. I've no audiophile at all.
Basically looking for a soundbar/surround sound setup, must be wireless and probably 5.1. Uses:

PS5 gaming and sim racing for 90% of the time
Netflix/Prime video/movies the other 10%, most of which using the apps on PS5

My TV supports 4k with VRR and 120Hz, so the system must support that in order to pass through from PS5 to TV, at least I assume that's how it has to be hooked up. Or am I supposed to hook the sound system up to TV via HDMI and the PS5 on a separate HDMI socket?
The tv is a Sony X90J with 2x HDMI 2.1 supporting VRR 120Hz and eARC if that is of any relevance.

Not looking for best in the world, just more bass and a serviceable surround sound experience so I can hear cars behind me and gunfire etc watching Apocalypse Now. I used to have a fairly cheap Sony system but it was ancient and only supported optical input which the PS5 doesn't have.

Thanks

This system gets great reviews at c. half your budget, I'm thinking of buying for my nephew in his first flat.

I have to say having spent a few hours researching, this one seems to punch way above its pricepoint and you'd be looking to spend at least £600 to get something similar from a more premium brand. Definitely one to watch for Black Friday I think

I doubt it'll go below two n'arf tbh - it used to sit at 350 and then took a big bump down a little while back.

Its very easily missed but if you click your own link, there's a £50 voucher. Just tick the box and its £200. Bargain. I suspect it will be discontinued as its last years model

It's now £200 and the Hisense 50 voucher is still showing. Clearout, and even more of a bargain, am checking in with nephew.

I've just bought one too. If nephew doesn't want it, it'll be used on another TV here smile

Delivery is saying November 11th, sometimes Amazon won't honour the deal if it was done in error but hopefully it gets delivered

Step this way, step this way smile

I have 5x B&W M1 and an AS2 Sub.

I also have a Yamaha RXV1065. It won't do 4k passthrough, but connect things to the TV and run HDMI Arc to the amp and all should be grand.

Comfortably under your budget.

That would trounce any soundbar, at a fraction of the price (the Sammy price is shocking), and as you say, ARC has all but removed the need for HDMI switching in the Amp.
