Streaming Music for Dummies...
Discussion
Seasons best all,
I have treated myself to some Buchardt A10s (and stands) with the Platin HTX hub. I'm pretty excited to unbox and get them pumping!!!
I'm posting to understand how people stream their music in practical, real-world scenarios. I use Spotify for casual listening but I'm not sure how this would work with a more serious set-up. I'm referring to situations I run into now, like, I'm cooking away listening to tunes in the kitchen then I flick on a quick YouTube video for a recipe and my music is interrupted and Michel Roux is pumping out of my HiFi at an unnecessary volume...
Can someone explain how a modern streaming setup should behave? My PC is in my office upstairs so I can't see that as being the main interface and I don't want to run upstairs and turn it on everytime I feel like listening to a tune.... do people have a dedicated laptop sitting next to their hub in the listening location?
I appreciate this is pretty noob questioning but I need to get my head around this as I feel I'm missing something.

Broadly speaking you’re doing it right. I think Spotify does lossless now but I switched to Tidal (primarily because Spotify refused to work with my Sonos system or vice versa) so you might want to try that for quality.
Perhaps an old iPhone could be used as your source rather than your day to day phone? I know the issue you have, same when I’m listening to a podcast and browsing something else, the sound will grab the audio output.

Depending what 'amp' you have, you might have something that does the streaming for you, or you might need some sort of Bluetooth DAC.
We use an ipad to stream the music and a £25 bluetooth DAC at the moment. Quality seems fine to me, but I'm going to look at better Bluetooth DACs and/or something that streams the music directly using a phone or Ipad to control. I dabbled with this a few years ago using a Raspberry Pi.
There are some very cheap BT DACs around, I bought one for my car, it's dire. Like listening to a medium wave transistor radio at the end of a corridor.
Hard to understand how it can be as bad as it is and still work at all!

Sounds great Mr E.
But this is a "for dummies" thread so you might need to explain a bit more.
I'm using active speakers with built-in amps... don't see that I can tell them to pull anything... does the Platin hub fulfil this role??
A few more steps in your process would be helpful.
Yes the hub fulfills that role as far as I can see, and sends the audio to the speakers. But this is a "for dummies" thread so you might need to explain a bit more.

In you initial scenario, your phone is streaming the music and then sendjng it to the speakers to play. The phone's audio output is directly connected to the speakers and so they will play whatever the phone is playing.
Instead, use the phone app to choose what you play, the Platin Hub then streams the music and sends to the speakers. There is no audio connection between phone and speakers.

Are you using the Buchardt app?
Doesn't the app just do room EQ?I find streaming direct from Spotify or Tidal apps sketchy but I suspect that’s more of a Sonos thing. I’m fully out of love with Sonos.

Think I'm getting it fellas.
I just located my pc on the local network via the Spotify app and selected it, played some tunes and simultaneously opened YouTube on my phone which then played without interrupting my music.
Easy when you know how I guess
In the Spotify app can you see the Buchardt hub (it needs to be on the same network of course)?I just located my pc on the local network via the Spotify app and selected it, played some tunes and simultaneously opened YouTube on my phone which then played without interrupting my music.

Nope, still not lossless nearly five years after saying it would be.OP - the Platin Hub has Spotify Connect (and Tidal Connect) built-in, once set-up and connected to your network you'd open the Spotify app on your phone and choose Buchardt/Platin hub as the playback device and it'll retrieve the tracks/playlist from Spotify and play them - nothing passes through your phone, it becomes a control device only.
