Sony TV sound output
Discussion
I'm struggling to get the sound from the TV out to my hi-fi.
I'm using an optical out and it works fine when using the internal digital tuner or when playing dvds via a dvd player on an HDMI lead.
The sound comes out of the TV and the hi-fi.
But if I play back recordings from the same dvd player which is also a hard drive recorder there's no audio out on the optical out.
Also if I playback media from the USB input again no output on optical out.
I've tried every setting I can find for sound TV/ Audio out and all it does is turn off the Tv speakers
Anyone got any ideas?

You seem to be saying the bluray optical out doesn’t work? Ie nothing to do with the tv. Swap the optical out cables (you must have 2 I presume, one from tv to bluray and from what you say one from bluray out to HiFi?). Does bluray also have a coax out
No blue ray. It's the audio optical out from the TV to my hifi amp.
Has output from normal telly or from playing DVD via HDMI to TV
No output from USB media input or from HDD recorder which is the same unit as the DVD.
Just doesn't make sense.
I know nothing about this but also have a Sony TV and I am using optical out to an Onkyo AV amp. The audio does "sync" particularly easily. Sometimes I need to restart the TV and amp, mains off for 20 seconds etc etc
For me I just dont switch the amp off once its working and its all good.
The only thing I notice is PCM appears on the amp display when it's working. Not sure if switching that off on the telly would help you OP?
