Ceiling speakers?
Discussion
Hi, can anyone recommend decent ceiling speakers to run off a Sonos amp? I'm not prepared to pay £500 each for Sonos (Sonance) as I'll be putting in six.
I've got Sonos Arc and sub so two ceiling speakers would be rears for surround sound. The other four in dining room and kitchen would be for music only.
Something around £250 each would be ideal.
Thanks!

I have Definitive Technology ceiling speakers in pretty much every room in my house and have to say they are very good and pretty invisible and not intrusive. I live in a Victorian house with very high ceilings and they perform superbly. The previous owner installed them everywhere including the bathrooms! I have two mounted in my kitchen area and have them connected to a Sonos amp and also purchased a Sonos sub. The speakers used to be over £300 each, however you can get them for well under the £150 now.

They're all much of a muchness at similar price points and everyone has their fave brands. We ran a blind listening test 4 or 5 years ago and Klipsch seemed to be the favourite with a Sonos amp.
£250 is a decent budget so if I was going down the Klipsch line, you could probably get these https://www.klipsch.com/uk/products/ds-160cdt

Our old sonos amp recently starting playing up, we went with an Alexa amp, on a prime day deal, and so far it’s been great.Only running in the kitchen, but haven’t noticed a drop in sound quality.

I've not played with it, but have a look at https://music-assistant.io/ It can be installed to HA as a HACS add-on. Basically lets you stream from a multitude of sources to big variety of players. Using this, you could use all sorts of different amplifier and 'smart speaker' options. So any cheap amp with a chromecast in the back could become a 'smart' amp.Blakeatron said:

What can the Alexa amp do, over and above a normal amp with Bluetooth?Only running in the kitchen, but haven’t noticed a drop in sound quality.
Currently using a Tangent Ampster BTII, with an Echo Show and the kitchen TV as inputs.
I've had a look at the Alexa amp, but the Amazon listing is a bit rubbish.
Looks like you still need to use an Echo device with it, and if doesn't have a traditional remote.
I've had good results with Monitor Audio CP range of ceiling speakers that have closed backs, the closed back takes away the variable of the environment they are installed.
