Could I mount a soundbar to the rear of the sofa? We don't watch films etc so not fussed about sound effects etc.
Would it still sound OK?

Sure - assuming the TV is above it :-)

It will sound properly weird if the TV is on one wall and the soundbar on another.

Your ears/brain are really good at telling where sound is coming from, a sound bar behind you will sound really odd, and weird I suspect.

Even on the most fancy multi speaker setup, the rear speakers are the ones that usually do very little, and only very occasionally the main speakers producing most of the sound.

Op,

You need to explain more.

Do you already have a soundbar?
Why can’t you put a soundbar where it’s meant to be?
What is your budget if you don’t have a soundbar yet?

If it was behind you, it would need to be facing rearwards otherwise the left / right channels would be swapped... so no. Plus you'd need a huge HDMI lead running around the room.

Many soundbars come with wall brackets. Alternatively you can buy mounts to hold a soundbar below the TV (or above it). Just make sure you read the instructions for the soundbar as mine says you should leave a 5cm gap above it. I'm sure there are basic soundbars which will tolerate being fixed directly under the telly and still sound 10x better than something behind you.

No, no and thrice no. confused

It doesn't matter what you watch ... imagine having a conversation with someone but with your back to them.

The OP can’t imagine that, because the OP doesn’t come back to their threads.
