Its been years since i have tampered with this sort of thing and i just cant remember how it all works.

Wanting to have all equipment hidden away on the other side of the room. Nothing too exciting, avr, dvd, sky q box.

Would something like this be what i need?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bolongking-Infrared-Repea...

Am i right in assuming that the one i need to control would be connected to the receiver?

It would be about 7m away and none of the kits ive seen seem to have any mention of the main ir cable length.

Then the others just connect into the devices? but surely they need a line of sight?

So i cant see how it would work.

Any other (simple) ideas?

Maybe use this as an opportunity to get a universal remote that comes with IR repeaters?

All my AV kit, apart from the TV, is hidden away in cabinets behind a partition wall. I use a Logitech Harmony Elite to control everything. One button press turns on and sets up the required devices for each " activity" - watch TV, watch Shield TV, watch DVD, stream music, etc.
The remotes buttons get set up to control the devices used in that "activity".

The Elite comes with a hub that has an IR blaster built in, and two IR repeaters. I've got the hub in one cabinet, a repeater in the other cabinet. The remote does direct IR for the TV itself.
It can also control bluetooth devices like my PlayStation and the Shield TV.

Logitech have discontinued the Harmony range, but they are still available to buy on eBay, and the app (for setting it up) is still supported.

They also sell the Smart Control remote, which uses the same hub/repeaters setup, but with a simpler remote.

Harmony can also be voice controlled, using Alexa.

It is pretty simple....

Are your devices connected by HDMI, as they may have CEC so will be controlled by one remote anyway through your avr.

As for the remote repeaters / extenders.... yes, what you linked to will work fine. The device you have listed as an IR receiver, which will require a line of site. You will need to point your remote(s) at this 'eye' to send the signal to the distribution box. The repeaters that are included are then stuck on the front or your devices in front of the ir receiver to relay the original signal picked up by your remote.

This diagram should help:

Thank you for the help guys.

And yes you are right i will have just one hdmi cable from tv to avr.

So really all i would use will be the sky remote (which is ok anywhere with sky q) and the avr remote. So really i just need one ir repeater.

Used these, worked very well and has the advantage that anything that uses IR will work and you're not tied to cables, although you do need two extra wall warts for power:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Marmitek-Powermid-XL-exte...

The design is a bit of an acquired taste (still working on the acquisition) but they're dependable.

I've used these for years now. Our Blu Ray player is down the end of the lounge in a rack, facing at right angles to our sofa, so I have the transmitter sitting in front of it and the receiver sitting on the radiator beside us - works like a charm.
