Our Sony Andriod TV has always been slow. It’s about 10 years old now and it’s getting worse. We have tried clearing the cache and doing hard resets but to no avail. Button presses can take several seconds to register and lately the TV has struggled to respond when the sky box is powered on. Has anyone had similar issues and are modern Android TV’s slow and clunky or were we unlucky?
We have a Sony Bravia TV which is about 8 years old, and it's always been slow. If I turn it on and want to switch the source, I have to wait a good 20 seconds before it will let me. Does nothing at first then just asks me to please wait. It's doesn't handle automatic source selection very well either meaning I often have to manually change and again, it takes ages.
Ours is about 8 years old and is getting slow occasionally - we went through a stage where turning Sky Q on would take about 5 minutes to give us a picture - however I am not 100% sure if it was the TV itself or the soundbar, as it would show a picture fairly quickly then pause for thought for a couple of minutes.
Anyway we power cycled everything including the soundbar and Sky box, and it's behaved itself since then. Still takes 30 seconds or so to give a picture, but much better.
FWIW we also have a couple of newer Sonys with Google TV rather than Android TV (the newer platform) and they are far better - switch on instantly every time.

Same trouble with our sony android from about same age.
Had to reset and disable the youview interface, because that was even worse, and prevents you from going to the sony menus properly.
Have to regularly reboot it rather than just standby to get it working again, and it works fine for a few hours.

I have a Samsung - seems pretty snappy to me. It certainly loads Netflix or iPlayer several times faster than the Virgin cable box does, so we almost never use the Virgin box unless we want to see actual live TV or something recorded from a series link. Before we had the Samsung we had an old plasma TV and used the Virgin box for everything, so when we got the Samsung, it was a bit of an eye opener to how these things should work.
