Plug sockets for IKEA Besta
Discussion
Hi, just bought a Besta TV stand, any tips on putting plugs inside the cupboards? I'm thinking I'll have to cut holes in the inside walls and shelves to put cables through, then spread a few 6 gangs around that can be screwed down, trouble is the backboard won't be strong enough for that.
Anyone done it so they aren't just floating around in the cupboards? I could screw them to the shelves I guess but then lose space for appliances.

I've got 6 Besta units built into the rear of a media wall (new partition wall). Bottom 2 are for AV gear, top 4 are display cabinets.
All the power sockets etc. are fitted to the blackboards using surface boxes.
As you say, the backboards are very flimsy. I used 18mm MDF to reinforce them. I cut the MDF to size (couple of mm smaller than the inside of the cabinet). Cabinet was loosely assembled, pencil marks around the carcass on the rear of the backboard, backboards removed again.
Laid flat, MDF glued on and weighted/clamped to prevent warping.
I marked out the socket positions and pre-fitted the surface boxes. Used a 16mm cutter for cable holes, and a 25mm cutter for ventilation holes top and bottom - all in the back board.
I also had to make a big cutout in one backboard for the AVR.
