Streaming to Sonos - not Spotify
Discussion
Hi
For a few years i’ve had Spotify ‘free’ with my discounted mobile contract.
But it’s being pulled on renewal.
So £11.99 a month to continue.
Time for a change I think. Will switch providers as I only chose for the Spotify!
Recommendations to stream to Sonos?
So far have considered Prime. Maybe the Apple family pack (Tv/Music/£25 a month for 5 shares)
Or maybe dust off the old CDs!

No matter what I try I can’t get Spotify to play to my Sonos system, so I use Tidal.
CheersSpotify/Sonos works well for us!
The Tidal family deal looks interesting.
It’s not the money, just hacked off that it’s not on the mobile now.
May sign up for Tidal & give it to the grown up kids!

I find the sound quality notably better but there may be a higher quality Spotify option now.
HiSigned up for a Tidal trial today, £2 to extend it to 2 months single user.
Had a few problems but Ok now, I deleted my Spotify & removed from Sonos, seemed to have been confusing things!
One question, do you play Tidal from the Sonos app?
That’s what I’m doing.
With Spotify I could control it from the Spotify app, can’t see a way to do that from Tidal.
Cheers- found it
On my iphone it’s not really visible for some reason, must be a setting somewhere.
Tried both light & dark mode & still the same.
It does work though, just can’t see the icon!
(Just found it’s the same on wife’s phone, works fine & all Sonos visible , maybe something to do with trial?, a minor thing anyway)

I use Apple Music and YouTube music and just stream them to my Sonos over Airplay. Not sure what the Android equivalent is but should work the same way.
I dumped Tidal and Spotify as they don't have much of my music. Apple and YT have everything, including all my old dusty and crusty stuff from years ago, so no need to dig the CDs out just yet.

I also dumped Tidal and Spotify. I went with Qobuz as a sort of Tidal replacement and also chose Apple Music as a replacement for Spotify. Qobuz allows you to buy hi res albums at discounted rates which I have done for some albums which I consider classics. Roon works very well Qobuz as it does with Tidal
I recently switched from Spotify to Tidal, imported all my Spotify playlists into Tidal which was seamless.
I switched because Tidal is supported in the B&O app as well as Sonos. No Spotify in B&O.
Tidal costs the same as Spotify, has better, higher quality streams (Dolby Atmos, etc) and the App integration works well.
The cast button in the Tidal App on my phone is also difficult to see.

Apple Music “plays nicely” with Sonos.
They are also pushing Dolby Atmos which can sound incredible. You can just turn it off if you don’t like it.
Classical music is hived off into a separate app with a search function optimised for this genre.
You also get Apple Radio and access to their back catalogue - a lot of their “hosted by artists” shows are worth a listen in particular Elton John’s Rocket Hour…

Use Deezer with my Sonos. Apparently a higher bit rate than Spotify £11.99 per month
Tried Tidal in early days but not a lot of my music selection. Works without problems its the Sonos app that gives more problem but old series 1 sonos app usually with no wifi connection when other devises can pick it Maybe lot to do with BT wifi which used to drop out a lot. Wifi seems better since BT did an online reset.

I use Apple Music these days too as I have one of their One bundles. Just be aware that I don't think Airplay works with some of the older Sonos stuff. They are also pushing Dolby Atmos which can sound incredible. You can just turn it off if you don’t like it.

No idea how Spotify continually gets away without any sort of high fidelity option these days. I like their discovery algorithms but Apple Music is getting there for me.
I tried Tidal some time ago but found it to be very R&B/Rap heavy in their playlists though that may have changed now. I'll have to give it another look.
