Morning all,

I have this TV -> https://www.samsung.com/uk/tvs/full-hd-tv/t5300-32... and I'm wanting to output the audio to headphones, ideally via 3.5mm jack.

I purchased this -> https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07XC42GZR?ref=ppx_yo2... but it doesn't work on Youtube or Netflix, which is no good.

What's the easiest way to get audio from the TV to headphones? Some research suggests a Firestick + bluetooth headphones would work best, but as this is for a 10 year old, them forgetting to charge to the headphones will quickly get annoying. Ideally I want a wired option but I don't think there is one?

This is a settings thing,

Try Sounds, Expert Settings, change Digital Output Audio Format from Dolby Digital to PCM.

If that doesn’t work, keep messing about with sound settings until it sends all the audio formats down the optical link.

Unfortunately PCM doesn't work, some sources (Youtube, Netflix) still don't work.

I had similar on a Toshiba and gave up, took the optical straight from the Sky Q box and didn’t use the TV apps at all.

It was only YouTube that didn’t work.

Some TVs have separate menus for HDMI audio out and Optical audio out. It's possible to make a menu change to the other output. Retrace your steps and doublecheck you're changing Optical to PCM.

If there's such a thing as a universal language for digital audio, then PCM is probably it. Everything should be compatible when using PCM.

You would probably be better with an hdmi arc to 3.5mm converter. It should support all sources and the volume control will work, which it wont do on an optical adaptor.

I have used these to connect sonos gen 1 amps to tvs with no analogue audio outputs.

I've not had time to read it myself though. If not maybe add a soundbar?
