Looking at getting a new TV 50 or 55i nch and Hisense seem to be coming up at a good price compared to the big boys like Samsung, LG etc.
I only use the TV for streaming such as netflix/Youtube so not hugely bothered if the quality isn't bang on par with the more expensive models as they're priced much lower.
Any experience with the brand and if so any good?

Be careful if you like HDR content with the cheaper sets.
My hisense roku 50" tv has been great for streaming apps etc except in this one area. The max brightness isn't very bright, so when it plays HDR content everything just goes darker than it should do to simulate the desired range. It can make some content completely unwatchable (anything like a night time scene suffers).
It was particularly noticeable when watching a terrestrial broadcast of jojo rabbit which had a normal sunny daylight street scene at the end. I loaded up the 4k UHD HDR stream from one of my streaming services and the same scene halved in brightness!
The other annoyance if you go for one of the roku based TVs is, yes you benefit from mainstream continued support from Roku and not hisense. However the flipside is the TV software updates can bring unwanted changes to the user experience. Their recent one last Christmas managed to slowdown the channel hopping ability of live tv by taking several seconds to update the onscreen current programme information. The update process can also wipe all your stored app credentials, so you have to go through the laborious process of logging in again for everything. It's a particular PITA for itvx which only allows the onscreen keyboard and you have a strong password!

I have fitted a hundred or so hisense tvs as cctv monitors on 24/7 , only had 2 fail. I have 5 of them in my house.
I was only really disappointed in a 50" roku one i got in a black friday deal for my gym as the backlight diffuser was so far from the lcd mask it was really noticable at the corners of the image. It must have been an almost 10mm gap between layers, it looked really weird. It wasnt faulty, just a st panel design.
Sold it as it was that annoying.

Also consider TCL for cheap tellies. I saw a TCL mini LED in the Carrefour of all places in France and it looked amazing, I wanted to buy one to replace a disappointing Panasonic that I got from Richer sounds, who has given me a voucher to compensate. They don't do TCL sadly so I got a Samsung thing which is pretty good I must say, but wouldn't have been my first choice

A video popped up on YouTube about fixing a Hisense Roku TV. Basically it's unrepairable if it breaks. Backlights and screen filters are glued to the chassis. Probably not an issue in today's throwaway world, but they are a bit crap.
Think its only the roku ones like that, they are very different and far lower quality than any other hisense display i have ever fittedstinkyspanner said:

I've got a 50in TCL, the screen itself is really nice, but the onboard 'smart' software is garbage, constantly drops WiFi, slow and laggy. I use mine with a Firestick and it's much better that way. You get what you pay for.Gary29 said:
