Hi all. I'm looking for some recommendations for floor stands for a set of bookshelf sized (I think - shoe box'ish sized) speakers. Had a quick look around and seen some on Richer Sounds and also some on Amazon that are a bit more visually appealing... want to spend as little as possible (sub £150) - any recommendations???

You can't go wrong with a pair of Atacama Nexus 6i for £99.

I bought these and have served me well for the rears. Loads of adjustment for height, swivel etc. I particularly like the cable management to hide wires.

I have these from Q-Acoustics. Obviously they are designed for the Q speakers but they come with 2 sizes of plate for the speakers to stand on.

If you can find a set of Atacama R724 - they are quite heavy & substantial.

Just stand your baby speakers on some grown-up speakers.

I bought some Avcom 600mm stands last month. Decent for £80.

I've had these for a good number of years to support a pair of Neat Iota speakers.

They work very well, although seem to be discontinued, and replaced with their Nexxus 300, 400, 500 etc.. range.

Regardless of what you end up choosing, I'd tend to look for ones that are "mass loadable" - at least one of the main support tubes is hollow, and you can then increase the mass of the stands by filling them with a heavy ballast. Whilst suppliers will sell "specialist" fillings (such as Atabites) at quite some cost, personally, after installing the cables and then sealing the bottom hole with some white blu-tac, I just filled mine with dry building sand. This had the desired effect of giving the stands more mass and helped the sound quality from the speakers.

I also have a very old setup in another room (which I originally got when at college 35+ years ago). This has larger speakers on heavy Target stands, but these I also filled with dry sand and noticed an improvement, particularly in the bass.

I don't know whether it would be a consideration, but the Atacama stuff is apparently all UK manufactured.

I have these cheapies at my partner's house.
Only for a Denon micro system but the improvement over sitting the speakers on the floor belies their price.

They pass the I-won't-have-them-in-the-house test too smile
