Bose Wave Replacement
Discussion
I've had a Bose Wave system as a bedroom alarm clock for 15+ years. Sadly it's died and I need to replace it.
My first thought was to buy another used one, but I'd also like bluetooth and DAB so I'm considering replacing it with something else.
Any recommendations? I'd like something with better sound quality and a little more volume than your average tinny clock radio.

Go for something in the Ruark range. Lovely kit www.ruarkaudio.com The R1 would suffice. Not cheap but great sound

That looks like exactly what I’m looking for, thanks!Denons current CEOL N11 has a basic alarm in it (as do earlier generations of similar units from Denon if you want to go secondhand), or the Marantz MCR-612 has a slightly more advanced alarm built in and uses hard buttons on the front fascia, rather than the current Denons touch buttons on-top.
Either, paired with some reasonable speakers, could give the sound you're after.

Yeah I'm sure everybody wants a seperates system in the bedroom. Either, paired with some reasonable speakers, could give the sound you're after.

I can vouch for Ruark equipment, not used it as an alarm but we have two, an R2 & a R4journeymanpro said:

However, the OP has been used to a Bose Wave system in the bedroom, I've heard one that a friend has in his kitchen and sound quality is not too shabby. The OP goes on to state that they'd "like something with better sound quality and a little more volume ", also that "It's a fairly large room and I want something I can play music on too..."
What I've suggested fits the description of an all-in-one mini-system, not separates [IMHO] and would likely give the step up in sound quality and volume the OP asked for.
I'm surprised that the wave radio/system/product/what-have-you is no longer. I have an early 2000's wave radio and it sounded pretty good back then and, while things have moved on, my wave radio still sounds okay compared to modern small equivalents like my JBL Linkview (for one third the price) and UE boom 3 (one eighth the price!).
But the sources of media to run through the things is too much for the user interface of a wave system to give a decent UI so an app on a phone is needed, a phone has a clock and on it goes..... Things like the Smart displays (i.e. Google Nest Hub, Amazon Echo Show) could do it but they don't have the best in audio output...

Just to round this off - the Bose Wave has been replaced, at Mrs OS's insistence request, with another Bose Wave...
Ordered a used newer version that has DAB, and bought a bluetooth dongle to hook up to the aux in.
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, disappointed I wasn't able to get a new toy to play with!

In a similar vein I’m looking at things like Ruark R6S and Pure C-D6 to do a similar job and am leaning towards buying used Bose Wave.
The thing that annoys me about all of these players, including the Pure micro system it will replace, is that the CD player will just inevitably break very early on and the now redundant CD slot / tray will annoy me for years more.
Does anybody build a good one?

I have both the Denon CEOL N11 (recently superseded by the N12 with HDMI in) and the Marantz M-CR612 and can highly recommend both fwiw. They both work with the HEOS mobile app, which takes a bit of getting used to, but works
For used Bose Wave kind of money I ended up buying a used Ruark R2 mk3. The box gives away that it was originally supplied in 2016 but everything still works and it’s a pleasant looking thing for a bedroom or kitchen. Much neater than the Pure DMX-60 micro system it replaces. I’ve not heard a Boss Wave for yonks but I bet the Ruark is on a level.
