Which OLED tv to choose…
Discussion
I’m looking to buy a new 65” OLED TV & I’ve always had Sony TVs, currently have a 55” Sony OLED which is great but I’m having a media wall fitted & am taking the opportunity to upgrade the size of the TV.
The 2 I’ve been looking at are a Sony XR65A80Lor an LG 65C34LA
There is a slight price difference but I just want to choose the best TV, I’m swayed towards the Sony as they’re what I know, so just thought I’d see what other people with more knowledge would choose.

I have the Sony XR55A80K from 2022 and this years Sony XR65A95L.
Previously I had LG and Samsung LED TV's which were great, no complaints but when I went OLED and QD OLED, I went Sony Bravia and really, really, like them.
Ultimately, there is little difference between TV's these days, so it's what looks best to your eyes. I like Sony, the chap at Richer Sounds I bought my TV's from preferred Panasonic and then the chap at Curry's pushed LG and Samsung. I don't think you can go wrong with any.

It's all very subjective, and it's going to come down to the operating system rather than much else. I'd go and see which one you like in a shop, get hold of the remote, and see what the menus are like etc.
I've got an LG 65C3 and it's an absolutely fantastic TV - I had a CX previously and that was incredible, but the C3 is better again.
I can't imagine for a minute that the Sony isn't brilliant too - it'll just have a different user experience.

So these are probably the main contenders depending if there is a budget constraint or not . . . hopefully the link works.

At similar price point, the differences in performance will be inpercepticle across all the major brands. Panasonic, Sony, Philips, LG and Samsung all use the same OLED panels.
Whilst they all have different default picture styles, some better than others, all the settings can be manually adjusted.
Aethetically they are all similar with the same minimal bezel and discreet speakers.
They main differences to the experience are the OS. However, if you use 3rd party controllers like SKY, Apple TV, Firestick etc, even the differing OS become trivial.
Some have more 2.1 HDMIs and lower latency, if gaming is important.
The only brand with a discernible USP is Philips, as they have the exclusive rights to use Ambilight on their screens.

Thanks all for your input & suggestions, I still haven’t made a decision & the clock is ticking, I’m tempted to choose the Sony option, as they’re the ones I know, have always had Sony TVs, the LG is still on the table as it’s £400 cheaper with the current offer at John Lewis.
I went to JL yesterday & seen very little difference between the 2 TVs

Samsung have a USP in their One connect box, which means the panels are the thinnest and can sit almost flush to the wall, with the electronic bits tucked away elsewhereWhilst they all have different default picture styles, some better than others, all the settings can be manually adjusted.

In terms of picture quality, viewing in a store like JL won't really help as they'll be running demo videos with the settings cranked to look best under the store lights etc. It is very subjective though at this price point as others have said, I'd just go with the one you like the look of the most and whose software you're familiar with. FWIW, at the top end LG seems to be the go-to brand of OLED whilst Samsung for LED (QLED for them now I guess).
I was looking at LG and Samsung, and went with the LG as I was slightly put of by Samsung using HDR10+ instead of Dolby Vision that everyone else uses and seems to be slightly better supported.
Samsung and LG both make screens for Sony, so worth checking for the particular model you're looking at as it could be the exact same screen.

They all use the same panels. LG make all the OLED panels and Samsung make QLED.
So every manufacturer's top line is equally as outstanding as the others and the current "top" screen flits between all the brands based on whichever is the most recent release.
Samsung do make OLED (QD-OLED to be more accurate) and they do supply to Sony. It seems that Samsung are Taking a "U" turn on QLED but that'll take time to phase out QLED manufacturing I suppose. Meantime Samsung have struck a deal with LG to take their OLED screens for the bulk of their OLED's. Will be interesting to see if Samsung can regain top slot in TV's.So every manufacturer's top line is equally as outstanding as the others and the current "top" screen flits between all the brands based on whichever is the most recent release.

Just for info to those who replied, I ended up getting a 65” OLED & also ordered a Sonos Arc, seeing as they had £200 off, I ordered the Arc from Richer Sounds as they give a 6 year warranty & the TV from John Lewis, which I opted for the extra warranty which covers screen burn
I have the 65” G3 with Sonos Arc, gen 3 sub and surrounds. It’s a brilliant setup!Gassing Station | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
