Ceiling speakers - what do I need?
Discussion
assumiing these are 2 to a room.spread over the hostel use...
You need a multi room amp imo.
Top tip: get a 9v battery. Have a firiend / loved one avaialable as wingman.
Touch the battery to the wires, very briefly (don't leave it on for. More than a split second). It'll make a "pop" sound in the room with the speaker. Work out where each wire goes, and mark them.
Then pick your preferred multiroom setup, wire in and enjoy

Helpfully it looks like they've labelled the cables. OP, can you get in close enough to read them? Might explain where each leads to.
The other end of the HDMI will most likely be terminated either on a wall socket (most likely a 50mm euromodule), dangling out of a brush plate, or tucked inside a brush plate. NB could be in the ceiling if the former owner had a projector. NB2 could be in a different room; I've got an HDMI running from my AV system to my kitchen TV with the intention of being able to have people in both rooms watching the same thing (e.g. people who want to chat throughout the film/programme/sporting event in the kitchen, normal people in the living room)
