No more explanation required - I would do a Poll but it needs multiple options for screen sizes & distances so can't be bothered smile

I have come to the conclusion, having wandered around various shops wielding a tape measure that my next TV would ideally be a 60" OLED . . .

Which of course don't exist.

I'm currently sat 1.8m from a 1080p 40" Panny LED which I am quite fond of - but it's time to man up & go BIG . . .

It is that issue where you decide on a 55" OLED & realise you wish you had gone for a 65" instead!

My viewing distance will now be between 2M & can for film nights be backed up to 2.5M.

So whilst I wait to see what Black Friday pricing has in store for me . . .

What size TV do you have & how far away do you sit - Over to you lot! smile

The old rule of thumb used to be 2x to 2.5x the size of the screen gave you the optimism viewing position away from the screen.

Yeah but I'm a pessimist so I like to be further away just in case.

Excellent, so I shall therefore ask whether either of you have ever wished you'd jumped straight to a 65" instead.

Similarly, do yo you think 65" would have been too much?

We did wonder about 65”, but I was concerned that we’d actually have to look “around” the screen rather than looking at it, if that makes any sense at alll? I suppose I mean changing eye / head position significantly to see different areas of the screen.

It would have been a lot of money to get it wrong so we erred on the side of caution. Trying the TV’s in Currys didn’t really help because there’s so much space around them and we couldn’t figure out what it would feel like in our house.

We went from a 42" to 55" and found it a huge difference, anything larger just wouldn't fit. If the alcove were bigger it could be fixed on the wall but Wifey and guests wouldn't be happy with their view hehe I can see your dilemma though and in your circumstances it would be a 50/50 coin toss.

Edit: I'd suggest cutting up some cardboard and even sticking some magazine cuttings on it to gauge.

I've just gone from a 49" to a 65", we probably sit 2.5m away. At first I thought it might be a bit big but Saul Goodman

I'm now thinking of staying 2m away & going for a 55" C3 . . . would save a fair chunk.

Let's see . . .

Here's a Guide...

I used this to decide what size to get for my living room. I could go 75" according to this but settled on 65" Sony Bravia A95L because it is a nicer size aesthetically.

2.6m away from a 65 inch. We used to sit 3.5m away but moved house. Its a bit big but neverminded

The other room is about 3.5-4m away from a 47. Couldn't go any bigger.

65” telly and sit 3.9m away, which is just about perfect for me.
