Experts..

Can anyone recommend some on-wall speakers for a home cinema? I’m looking for on-wall to keep the profiles small (a depth of 150mm or less to the wall) and a white finish to blend with the decor. I can’t use in-wall as two of the walls are solid and I don’t want to have to chisel out a cavity.

I’ve looked XTZ, Dali, KEF and Monitor Audio. Does anyone have experience of these and are there any others to consider?. Budget is no more than £300 for each single speaker though..

Thanks for your help,

UV

The KEF T Series are quite limited and require a really high crossover. Only use them I’d size /depth is the primary concern.

I’d suggest Monitor Audio are the best bet for those you mention, specifically within the price constraint you mention.

Radius 225 is the easy option.

If you want a tidy look, then and SB-2 or 3 would be good.
Passive LCR configuration, which can be partnered with Radius or Sound Frame 1 for surround duties.
These also work well in the UK, as they help you avoid close by walls, or alcove speaker positioning issues.

V240 are also a viable surround speaker. I’ve used them before and they fit well with any of the above.
These also help greatly, as we or]ten sit too close to the back wall, and these give you way more focussed sound, without having to resort to little speakers on clunky angled brackets.

AE also have the 105, which is less slim, but uses more conventional cabinet sizes and larger drive units.

I’ve been dealing with them for twenty years. Amazing speakers.
But they aren’t in the correct price bracket for this enquiry.

Why, would you like some :-)

I'd probably choose the Monitor Audio SF 2's on walls in white for that budget. Surrounds are not so important performance wise vs aethetics when the speakers are on wall.

They were decent quality until c4 purchased them. It was our go-to speaker for all our cinema builds .... but we found the build quality went down hill when the price was slashed, so we moved away from using Triad. The electronics (Triad branded C4 amps) are horrendous in terms of failure rates.

Supplement the Kef speakers with a decent sub (REL maybe) and then you have a pretty decent package. I remember them being demo'd at the Bristol show when they were new and they sounded pretty good.

The price of Triad wasn’t slashed at the factory.
The build and components never changed, even to this day.
The only thing they slashed, was the Pulse margin, giving us the 20% ish rrp drop.

I’ve only used their sub rack amps, and have never had a failure in nearly 20 years. Am I lucky then?

SF3 are within the budget. SF2/3 are nearly double though frown

They do sound pretty good, as long as you don’t use the KEF sub, as it design mistakes.
They are just the very lower end of ok, due to their compromised design and sky high crossover requirements.

I've been using a KEF T205 system in my front room for the past 10 years and I think they sound great.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the sealed 10 inch T2 Subwoffer, In my room there is a node at the top of the stairs leading to the roof terrace in the opposite corner to the sub that is very boomy and unpleasant but since mobody hardly ever goes there it's not a problem. It's not the failt of the sub, rather the placement of the sub.
