40" Sharp TV of indeterminate age in the bedroom. Worked like a champ for a while but now the OK button on the remote has packed up - obviously meaning I can't select anything. Sods law that the most important button is the one that's gone. The buttons on the TV itself allow for opening the various menus but not for selecting anything so I'm stuck.

Any options in terms of getting a new remote? Don't really want to bin/replace it unless I have to as it does work well and we rarely watch TV in the bedroom.

There will definitely be universal remotes out there. Maybe even a like for like replacement. Depending on the TV, you may be able to control it from your phone as well

Universal remotes are 3 quid, just do that.

Second hand Logitech Harmony off ebay or an Amazon Firestick, as the remote on that will also control your TV.

Get the model number from the back and go to Amazon.

They've loads of replacements that'll be here by the end of the week.

Or as others have said, just buy a universal one.

Open it up - clean the button contacts with IPA (not the beer...). You may also need a dab of conductive paint on the underside of the switch plunger but that should all get it working again.

Search for the model number on Amazon.

My dog chewed our LG remote, I purchased a "replica" one off Amazon, in the pictures it was exactly the same apart from LG badge was missing.

When it turned up, it was identical, it had a small piece of black tape on the front, I removed it and the LG badge was underneath. £13 I think.

Sorted. Got a universal remote from Argos for £10.49 works perfect.

Had no idea there was such a thing until the chaps pointed me in right direction. Saved the cost of a new TV!

I just bought a replacement but aftermarket remote for my 12 year old Panasonic plasma from Amazon. Works fine, almost all the buttons are in the same place.
