Our 43" samsung is about 3 years old and is slow to use. I was looking at the oled models but some.of the Samsung qleds are half the price. We only watch catchup TV. Any advice please?

The QLEDs worth having are the same price as the OLEDs

Absolutely this.

Also..I made the mistake of going from a very good but old Samsung 55 (which I passed on to a Family member) to a 65 Oled LG. Too big for the room and the picture quality is definitely not as good despite many attempts at fine-tuning it. If you like the TV you have, get a firestick!

Or on a similar vein, a Roku 4k. Not the. Stick though as the one I had kept becoming unresponsive as it was getting hot but the 4k express I replaced it with has been perfect.

Just to add a dissenting voice get an Apple TV 4K.

Much more pleasant to use than a Fire Stick biggrin

For anyone with an old Samsung, the Roku stick bypasses the incompatibility with ITV X as well as being much quicker. I’m sure the other sticks do exactly the same but I haven’t tested them.

For 4K it's twice the price assuming you're comparing the Max to the entry level Apple TV 4K.

Agreed either way it's more expensive and of course if you prefer the Fire TV that's the one you should buy but personally I think the Apple TV 4K is miles ahead in terms of user experience.

It's a personal thing and I'm probably a bit of a neat freak but the Fire TV always feels very cluttered and like I'm being bombarded with adverts and that's as a Prime customer smile

Surely you just turn it on and go straight to the streaming app you want to watch?

Depends how you tend to browse or "channel hop".

Unless it's changed you can't quickly and easily change between apps on a Fire Stick like you can an Apple TV where switching apps is just like it is on an iPhone.

That may not be a consideration but I found it night and day compared to a Fire Stick which just annoyed me with how sluggish and how much of a faff it was to move between things.

Each to their own on usability though smile

There are literally APP buttons on the remote. Not sure how quicker than pressing a single button it could be - Apple TV "Mind Control" perhaps? hehe

Cheaper screens have lower spec processors in so all the apps will start to feel sluggish way more quickly (even out of the box) than the higher end screens, best thing is to use an external device if your are still happy with the screen size/picture quality of your existing screen.

Picture on Samsung qleds is good - but the menus on the new ones are a bit of a mess for usability imo, like they've crammed way too much stuff in and they are slow and clunky even on the expensive models.

External device is really the best way to go.
Nvidia Shield is the best device out if you are really into home theatre and want to hook up a hard drive with content but if all you watch is the usual netflix/Disney/iplayer stuff a fire stick 4k will do the job for 1/3 of the price (just check the apps you use are all available in the Amazon ecosystem)

Bought this a few weeks ago to replace the 6yr old version that developed a screen issue.

5 year warranty included.

We have a 4k fire stick attached but other than the odd channel the new tv has very similar functions.

Depends if they do the apps you want.

Never quite understood why most of these remotes seem to have a Rakuten button (never heard anyone mention using it) and it still doesn't change a poor interface and I've never seen one with (for example) a Channel 5 or a Paramount button.

It's just my opinion if people like Fire TV buy Fire TV but I'd definitely look at the options smile

Probably Rakuten pay the most
