I've got about 50 unwanted DVDs and 20 CDs to get rid of. Obviously they could be put in the bin - which seems a shame. They could be sold one by one on ebay for pennies but life's too short for that.

What's the best way for them to find a new home?

I just scanned them all into the Music Magpie app and came up with their generous offer price of £6 for about 25% of them they were willing to take, so again not worth the faff. Mind you, they offered 70p for one CD (highest price!) so I checked to see what it's selling for on ebay. As it turns out Music Magpie have an identical one listed for sale at over £16 so they clearly like to take their slice of pie.

Or is the dustbin simply the easy answer?

Local charity shop is worth asking, I've bought a few CDs for 50p or £1 a go to a good cause.

Or some record shops might take them, there a stall in our local permanent market which seems to shift a fair few.

From experience they won't be interested in taking them as nobody buys them !

I'm sensing horizontal gravity is pulling these round objects towards the round file. It seems only a few months ago that VHS cassettes suffered the same indignity.

Music magpie have a app you can scan the barcode and they tell you how much it’s worth then you can just put them in a box and post them for free to them,

Some they won’t take. Which you’ll either just have to bin or maybe take somwhere like CEX.

Stick them on Facebook marketplace for free. Some nerd or hoarder will rake them

CEX no longer purchase CDs or DVDs, fifteen years ago used to be a decent earner (for some stuff).

I have bought some (privately) for my car’s CD player last year. hehe

Even the stuff on Gumtree doesn’t sell these days.

I occasionally buy dvds from the charity shop for my seaside house.

Netflix doesn’t have a brilliant choice and sometimes I just want to watch something easily digestible.

It would be a shame to bin them - someone will take them off your hands if you stick them on FB Marketplace or Gumtree.

I have in the last couple of years given some to Barnardo's charity. I have also bought some from them.

I'm a bit nerdy (luddite really smile and enjoy DVD and CDs. If you are in Yorkshire, I would pop round to see if I might take the whole lot of you (to my OH's disgust who hates me hoarding this stuff, but I won't tell her biggrin)

I like rooting around charity shops and picked up a couple of DVD's to watch in our campervan.

Good Will Hunting (Very good) and Sunshine (Passable/Rubbish)

Only 50p so what the hell.

I was talking to a guy in a music shop on holiday and he said a guy came in with 1100 cd's in two suitcases he wanted £20 for the lot.

The shopkeeper said no, so the bloke said OK, take them for nothing.

The shopkeeper still didn't want them, and said charity shops in the town had stopped accepting them.

Local Music Shop might be an option - although some want a Discogs index to weigh up the financial hassle of taking everything. Mine are staying hidden in the loft, someone else can skip them in the future.

Also ask anyone whose idea of a Sunday includes car boot sales?

A look at completed listings on ebay suggests some things will sell.

Even most charity shops don't want them - they sell very few but get hundreds donated.
I think most people realise that they're best just stuck in the bin - as I've done with 100+ recently.
