Anyone fixed a CD player?
Discussion
Does it do this with Cd's you've made yourself (ie Cdr discs) or CDr's and pre manufactured cds?
We use to know when our cd players needed service when the took ages to load to track 1, This usually ment an electronic alignment or a laser replacement
Try gently cleaning laser with a cotton bud with a tiny bit of cleaning fluid. Then dry it off with another cotton bud. Allow any excess cleaning fluid to evaporate.

Open it up, see the mechanism. Watch what it does at each step.
Coukld be a belt has perished and snapped and isn''t going anywhere.
Could be a cog with dried grease means the head doesn't move (might be on a worm drive).
If it all looks to move right but doesn't "see" the cd, try cleaning it but i've never fixed a laser. Could be that you're lucky and the mechanism is still on ebay for not much, but imo it it's currently knackered there's no risk in having a bash!

If it's spinning and reading the track data, then the laser is working to some extent.
Also the focus and fine tracking mechanism.
t could be the motor/mechanism which moves the laser head outwards during play?
This could be a simple dc motor which can be tested with a battery, or a stepper motor.
I've had a couple of hifi cd players apart.
One I fixed with whole new transport.
The other needed a new belt.

Anything on youtube about that model.
I had a fairly expensive Bose cd player stop working, stuck, skipping etc but mechanically all looked fine.
Cleaned lense, lubricated no effect
YT suggested ageing/failing capacitors on one of the boards and suggested changing them out which I did and it now works again.
