Sky Go abroad

Has anyone found an effective way to use this abroad, it used to be fine, but even with trying a few different VPN's last year it was very intermitent.

It would be nice to keep the kids entertained whilst away.

I usually just download a number of films onto their iPads from our Sky Q box, rather than trying to stream anything live.

I used Nord vpn to use it in Crete this year.

My old dad's in hospital at the moment and the SKY Go app won't let him watch anything on his ipad.

I've read that some hospital wifis can make the device/app think it's abroad, would that sound logical? It was working fine in the morning at home but wouldn't work in hospital. Assuming this is the case, is there a simple workaround or any way to get it to work for him?
