I have a 2019 LG B8 and bought a cheap replacement ‘Magic Remote’ off the ‘Bay for <£10 and I can’t seem to get the magic pointer function to pair ( I believe it may run on Bluetooth).

The regular remote functions appear to work as expected it’s just the magic pointer which doesn’t.

Any suggestions?

Won't that be specific to the LG magic remote?

Have you definitely got the correct magic remote as diferrent LG models have different versions of magic remote and I'm not sure there is cross compatibility amongst them?

Presumably you've tried all the obvious trouble shooting like re-pairing the remote.

Do you have any issues with connecting to Wifi? This might seem unrelated, but there is a common issues with wifi connectivity on LG TVs.

My 2019 LG started having issues with Wifi not connecting and the magic remote pointer also became unresponsive. There's a fix for the wifi issue, which in my case also resolved the magic remote issue, although I really don't know why or how. Basically, the wifi module in the LG TVs have their wires tightly crimped and flattening out this crimp seems to fix the WIFI, and as I mentioned, my magic remote also started responding again after doing this.

It's a back off the TV job but was very easy to DIY. There's a few videos on youtube, eg. this one.

I still have the original 2018 LG remote which works well, but I was keen to replace it as it has become a bit scruffy.

Done a bit more digging and found the official support material..

https://www.lg.com/uk/support/product/lg-AN-MR18BA...

I can un-pair and re-pair my OE remote, but the replacement remote does not flash/respond in the same way (although it still works for all the usual IR functions).

It would appear that the pointer/cursor functionality is proprietary/ licenced tech. and simply isn't available on the knock-off replacements...

(Hillcrest Labs / Freespace / MotionEngine)

Not obvious that you can buy an OE replacement at this point, and assume they would be £30-60 if you could...
