We have 2.7 x 5.5m room and along one narrower end will be wall to wall floor to ceiling shelving and cupboards type fitted furniture.

Subject to it being discreet, we're going to fit a circa 100" retractable screen in front of the bookcase. My initial plan is to create a suitably dimensioned pelmet that protrudes the face of the bookcase or can be pulled forward to contain the screen case.

Are there any screens or kits that would do or could help create this? I've seen types that are designed to fit into a ceiling void, with a facia plate mounted in the ceiling. We could potentially do this but might be a lot more work and they're pretty pricy units.

Thanks.

The issue is usually you have to build something around the weighted end of the screen so as it still pulls down on the screen when deployed and keeps it taught.

Are you looking for gucci electric all in one or happy to manually pull and secure the screen, if the latter it should be easy to adapt any screen designed for wall mounting.

If you have a pelmet, you can just get a standard surface mounted screen as the housing will be hidden. Generally the screen case/housings are 100mm ish square. They're pretty heavy units so you just need to ensure that the joiney will take the weight of the screen when fixed in place.

Edited: I'm talking an electric screen here, not manually retractable ...

I'd prefer powered, so drops down when you fire the kit up. Should be OK to mount it on the front face of the pelmet and box in (and maybe recess the pelmet to a degree). The only bit I'm not sure on is how to finish the underside, where the screen will drop down from.

Maybe I need to go get my hands on one to have think.

Also, are acoustically transparent screens worth looking at or is there a noticeable image quality trade off? Thinking of going for a ust to avoid having to ceiling mount, but that's take the spot for a ctr speaker. I'd also like to use an alr screen as getting it properly dark in there will be challenging, expect I'll I've to pick my priorities though!

As long as you have a pelmet deeper than the screen, it will be fine ... you shouldn't see the screen casing from anywhere other than stood directly underneath.

We use acoustically transparent screens on 99% of projects as the speakers we use are in-wall. You will struggle to find alr & accoustic, not many options. You could always go phantom centre using the L & R channels.
