Freesat tv needed?
Discussion
Hi, I’m looking to buy a new tv and am confused about what I need so looking for a bit of help.
We live in a part of Stroud valleys where an aerial reception doesn’t work and have a satellite instead. The current tv (old Panasonic LCD), has a freesat unit built in and works well enough. However, I see that most of the good value sets have freeview, and not freesat built in.
I really like the value of the Hisense tvs, and was wondering if they would work for me? Do I need freesat built in or would it work without?
Thanks

Freeview is terrestrial TV. It requires an aerial.
If you like the Hisense TV you can add a separate Freesat box. Something like this will do the job but it doesn't record; https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7647019
Boxes that record are available but are a lot more money https://www.argos.co.uk/sd/freesat-box/ Shop around.

I see that some of the more expensive ones are 4K. If I buy a cheaper one which isn’t, will the tv itself show 4K content as a normal Ariel wouldn’t be receiving in 4K would it?If you like the Hisense TV you can add a separate Freesat box. Also, if I bought a freesat receiver would I be using the OS from the receiver or the one on the TV for programme guides, apps etc…?

We find having a freesat hard disk recorder works for us.
The concept of watching 'live broadcast TV', what they want to broadcast, when they want to broadcast it seems like something out of the 1970s.
I think the only non-recorded broadcasts watched in our house last year were 3 football games.
With interweb TV and a satellite recorder, live broadcast is not only dead, but nearly forgotten.
If you have good internet then maybe you don't need the satellite recorder, but it suits us for fast forwarding the adverts if nothing else. And it's nice to fall back on, the odd time 'the internet is playing up'.
Yes it would be nice if the satellite and recording functionality were done in the TV, but OTOH, our old TV still works as a display, all the apps on it are old and hopeless like a 10 year old android tablet, but we can use it with a laptop or whatever supplying content.
