When we had SKY Q installed at my in-laws the installer set the remote so that a press of the power button turned on both the TV and the SKY box. Following intervention by my brother in law the SKY remote will not turn on the TV but will still adjust its volume. Can anyone help make the remote turn on the TV?

Sky Q, a single press turns on the box, press and hold for 1 second turns the TV on.

If the TV was turning on with the Sky Q box that will be a setting in the TV, my Samsung does this. If I turn Sky Q or PS5 on, the TV turns on to that source.

Set up HDMI control with your Sky Q remote

You can go a step further with your Sky Q remote and make it so the on/off button turns both your Sky Q box and television on or off at the same time. To do this follow the steps below.

Press Home on your Sky Q remote
Select Settings > Setup
Select Audio Visual > HDMI Control > On

Thanks for the replies. I have re-paired the remote and it still won’t turn the tv on. Volume only. I have to use the tv remote to turn it on and then manually select the appropriate source. Frustrating as there is only one source.

At our house the powering up of the SKY box causes the Samsung tv to turn on and select that source. Need to work out why that isn’t happening with the in-laws Sony tv. I suspect this may be one of those problems I can’t get to the bottom of. Doubly frustrating as my father in law cannot cope with two remotes.

Try a different Sony code when you pair the remote, there are multiple but if the volume works the power button should also.

How old is your TV? I ask as on an older LG the sky remote would only on/off if the sky box was connected via HDMI port 1

The SKY box didn’t know the code of the tv so searched by itself. If it hdmi 1 doesn’t work I shall lie to the tv and get it to try other codes.

The remote can not learn the IR of the TV itself. You have to wither put the model number in or actually quicker is to say 'find it for me'and then the sky will cycle through the different code options it knows.

Just because it controls the Volume doesnt always mean it will control the power. So I always try both volume and power.

If you say the tv always used to come on when the Sky Box woke up, then it is the HDMI control settings in either the TV or the Sky box that have been turned off.

So I switched the input to HDMI 1 and the remote now turns the TV on and off with a 1 second press of the ON button. What I am still unable to do is get the turning on of the SKY box to trigger the turning on of the TV. There is nothing in the TV settings as I have been through literally every menu and sub menu. I’ll take a look at the SKY settings this evening. Cheers

The Sky setting is in Settings / Setup / Audio visual / HDMI Control. The corresponding setting on the TV must also be on. It's HDMI CEC but different TV manufacturers call it different things. Samsung for example call it Anynet+. Possible the TV needs to be on a HDMI channel to see the setting.

A single press for me turns on both my Sky Q & TV. Another single press turns off just the Sky Q box. A long press turns the TV off.
