I've just posted this on the Samsung Community forum..............

"Q700A Soundbar with SWA-9500S rear speakers.....

Setup with my QN700A Tv - Does this equate to a true 5.1.4 system (bearing in mind the soundbar is 3.1.2)? It certainly sounds like it when I listen to Atmos demo videos.....it's amazing!

Secondly is there anyway to add extra Atmos speakers? Would an extra pair of rears be a solution? Would the TV accept 2 pairs via WIFI?

I'm hooked on Atmos and I want more lol.

Thanks for any insight."

Over to you guys as I'm sure PH knowledge will be more forthcoming thumbup

Seems my post is badly worded! I already have those rear speakers - what I want to know is is it possible to add extra Atmos speakers?

Nope, you clearly stated it. In my defense, I am sick...

As a general rule proprietary systems dont usually all additional things to be added.

Not positive news i am afraid.

What would control the actual atmos generation of sound. You would need an atmos processor surely?

It’s a sound bar. The entire system only uses 28watts. It is a toy in comparison to a real sound system. I’m sure it sounds better than the tv speakers but if you want true atmos you need a receiver and real speakers.

Soundbars have their uses; I know people who have them because they cannot fit speakers where they need them due to renting, or cannot get wife/husband approval on speakers or the budget, or simply want to dip their toe in but CBA with setting up a surround system or simply look at the cost and think "I want surround sound, but not at those prices".

But are you saying you took a perfectly good discrete speaker set up with a separate receiver and replace it with a sound bar as an upgrade? Or was it a case of going from an AC3 set up to a TrueHD set up and not wanting the old speakers?

I hate taking no for an answer! It seems that all the audio information (including Atmos) is supplied via the source data to the soundbar or whatever so it's a question of separating the signal/s and sending them on their merry way?

An HDMI extractor seems to do just that and more .........

This one in particular maybe...........

More research needed methinks.
