Hi all, it's a good 10 years since I bought a tv, so I'm well out of knowledge.

QLED/OLED/LED/PLASMA/ETC ETC ETC

I want a decent sized tv (minimum 60") and have a budget of 'as cheap as possible' lol.

Looking at the prices, it seems LEDs are around £400, but then it jumps massively to the 'others'.

Am I going to notice the difference? Is there any point in 4k when I don't have anything that will play 4k and to my aging eyes, 1080p is pretty good!

Are there any Black Friday deals worth a look?

Ranges start with LED panels; O/QLEDs are a step up in performance and quality (darker blacks, better picture processing etc). But ‘normal’ LED sets are good for the majority of consumers. Almost all sets are 4k nowadays, you won’t find a 60”+ panel with 1080; the upscaling is pretty decent if the source is 1080, but you will notice a fuzzy picture with 720 sources (I.e. non-HD channels).

You’ll get 60”+ for a few hundred if you look at something like Hisense, which are budget but decent and review well. I wouldn’t recommend Sharp. If you prefer a big brand, main differences between the likes of Samsung, LG, Sony etc comes down to preference with the user interface, and weather you need freesat or not. Otherwise all perform much the same unless you’re spending thousands on a set.

If you’re in the newsagents grab a copy of What Hi-Fi and look at their buying guide at the back.

All depends what devices / sources you are using to play the media.

not got much to add, but we have a sharp tv just for the bedroom and its built-in wifi card is terribly slow, the speed of netflix/iplayer loading on it was so bad we had to add a firestick, and its now perfect.

Also the interface is clunky and slow compared to the Samsung in the living room.

Thanks guys. I’m not particularly on a budget. If there’s a distinct difference between LED and OLED and there’s a bargain OLED then I would consider that.

I must admit I was expecting better Black Friday deals than what I’ve found so far.

It's ~ £1500 for a 2022 65" OLED.

Just for left field and not as main TV, but definitely thinking of one of these for a bedroom where mounting a flat screen TV is problematic for various practical and aesthetic reasons.

How this projector can take an image projected at an angle and off horizontal, and then automatically aligns it up and produce a horizontal and 'squared up' 16:9 image is witchcraft.

Sorry forgot link, doh!

I always use this yearly post as a guide. But be aware he doesn't recommend any cheap led TVs due to the state of 4k hdr content. basically if you watch a fair amount of that on streaming apps then all the cheap TVs do this very badly and washout the image and there is no way to have 4k without hdr in pretty much all streamed 4k streamed content.

LED < QLED < OLED / QD-OLED
