Hi all

About to move abode in the net few months.

Is there a simple guide in how to turn a single integral garage into a home cinema room.
New Chateau won't fit the 72 TV the other half insisted was an essential.

Simple stuff - We can do. ( Budget is getting squeezed )
The very skilled stuff - eg. plaster, take wires into sockets and approve to authoritative bodies, sound proofing, carpets, very very clever lighting...( unless there is a simple solution to this )

Apparently - we can cut timber frames - bolt it to the walls, apply damp-proofing strips to stop damp.. erm. fill insulation inbetween wooden bits.

So... begger all really.

Just need to work out where the nearest central heating ring is - to insert a rather large radiator to boot.

Go onto AVforums and head to the home cinema buying/building section forum.

You'll find a wealth of info from basic stuff to building your own little Odeon.

I'd say AVforums is good for the cinema specific bits, but there's plenty of general building in your project too... DIYnot is a good forum for that sort of thing. In my experience both good forums, mostly welcoming, with some good knowledge amongst the hivebrain.

Be aware that they both have the same featurea that PH has, in that there is a bit of a lottery as to whether someone will answer your question usefully, unusefully, or they'll tell you to do something entirely different to what you actually want (I guarantee at some point you will be told to build a separate building and to install a projector instead of the TV you already have)

Free advice... Sometimes you get what you pay for biggrin

The knowledge split for me would be:
Mains wiring and plumbing: DIYnot
Damp proofing, thermal insulation, floor structure and studding out: DIYnot
Sound proofing (inc resilient bars): AVF
Signal and speaker cabling: AVF
Hanging plasterboard: AVF if using a soundproofing mounting system, otherwise DIYnot
Tape/joint or skimming: DIYnot.
