Late to the party, i know. I bought myself what I had always dreamed off and couldn't afford as a youngster.

Marantz CD-63 Mk2 Ki Signature
Marantz PM-66 Ki Signature
Mission 750LE Farad Azima speakers

I had a similar setup previously - stock cd 63 and Nad 310 amp and some cheaper Mission bookshelf speakers .I still have the kit in my car, so will find a moment to unpack alone.

I need a media unit that can house my TV with the hifi and hide the cables and store the kids dvds etc. etc. Any suggestions? It must be wide and have drawers/cupboards to store and hide stuff. Obviously the hifi should be on display!!

Are 'media units' still roaming the earth?
TVs are too big these days.

Our TV is on a bracket on the wall.
The hifi and Humax box are on a shelf under it.

I ended up getting one made by The Really Good Oak Shop. Small family company, they'll build whatever you want and the main guy does delivery runs with his wife periodically. An example of his attention to detail is that mine picked up a couple of tiny scuffs getting it from the van to the living room that I wouldn't have noticed, he gave them a little sanding and reoiling in situ.

When specifying it I included details like a back set away from the wall so I could have the unit right up against the wall and have my cabling come out the wall behind it as well as a rebate around the skirting board. Shelf widths, cupboards, all specified by me.

Obviously if you want something that looks more Avant Garde they might not be a good bet.

ETA a couple of pics of mine:

I had a very specific spot to place it, and wanted to have just the receiver, turntable and console on view, plus I needed a place for the centre speaker.

But, because it's a home cinema set up I wanted to tuck away input devices, have somewhere to do cable "management" (I use the term loosely!) and hold accessories like 3D glasses, a few discs, PS games, aux cables and so on. Hence the cupboards either side:

The shelves are all removable and relocatable, I also specified a couple more than I would need, just in case. To give you an idea of cost, the whole lot was around £800 delivered back in 2021. Lead time was about 8 months due to a shortage of oak that was affecting joiners everywhere (I did check!) that has hopefully gone away now, but you may find prices have increased too.

That looks lovely. Would you mind pm'ing me the details of the company you used for this?

Yes, that's them.

The process I followed was to pick out something I liked on his website, then measure up where I wanted it and worked out what I needed in terms of width, height, depth. Then I had a good think about things like how much of a space I needed between the back of the unit and the wall (I think I went with 6cm as the speaker and HDMI cables go into brush plates so there isn't much of a bend on them). Stuck it all in an email and he came back with a price. I think he offered a choice of different handles too.

A year later and it's still looking as good as new. One of the beauties of an oiled wood finish is that minor scuffs and scrapes can be fixed (important with children around!) but TBH I've not had any yet.

Depends on your budget, but I have a Scala Spectral unit with a few matching cabinets. Stunning quality and very contemporary.
