Ultra Short Throw Projectors
Discussion
Am in the process of converting a basement room into a cinema room. I've been given a number of options in relation to the set up, but due to the width of the room (ie seating area to projector - which is around 3.5m) I'm being advised to either go large TV or with an ultra short throw projector.
I told the installation guys I wanted to keep the floor between the projector and the screen relatively clear as the room will be used for the kids mainly I suspect, however he said a ceiling projector would be right above the seating area so the fan noise would make it really not viable.
I'm consious the short throw projector would need to sit on a base unit (as fitting it to the ceiling isn't an option), and looking at the specification it needs to sit around 27cm in front of the screen, and since its a 30cm deep unit itself, then overall I need a base unit of around 60cm depth if I want the base unit pushed up against the wall.
I'd prefer projector over TV, but struggling to find a media/TV unit of the right depth to be honest. Looking for something in black with shelves/door (so I can put the relevant kit on & in it). Anyone had the same issues and found something that would work ?

Get one custom built. Exactly the right size, ventilation and cable management and if kept simple doesn't have to be expensive. You can also sit the projector in in, rather than on top.
There are several maunfacturers of cabinets that will take the new UST projectors from Optoma.
If your installers use or know of intoAv the they have a clever automated one.
One of my clients has also tied up with a cabinet makes to make custom manual ones with very nice piano style hidden hinges.
Let me know if you meed more info.

Thanks. Seems custom is the way forward.
I’m going to buy an Alphason Element modular unit so I can get the room completed and up and running as is wide enough to house the equipment (and hides it) but also low enough not to be obtrusive.
I have a joiner coming around Saturday so will speak to him about a custom unit.
