On my travels next month I will find myself having to pass time for the afternoon in Newcastle, before having to catch public transport onwards in the evening.

Other than aimlessly wandering around the city centre on my own, can anyone suggest any sights worth seeing, or places to see by foot to kill a few hours? Old historic pubs, landmarks etc (not the bridge, already seen that).

Cheers

Richer Sounds, PMT music, JG Windows, John Lewis, Fenwicks, all have a good range of toys to admire and all within walking distance of the train station.

Sorry, this should have been posted in the Holiday & Travel section, my mistake. My excuse is that both sections are next to each other, and I clicked on the wrong one!

Wander down to the Quayside and over the Millennium Bridge to the Baltic gallery. There's also the Laing art gallery or Hancock Museum. You could get on the Metro and do a circuit down to the coast and back or watch an arty-farty film at the Tyneside Cinema. Or, you could do what I used to do for wasting time, and spend it in Hustlers Pool Club.

The Baltic has gone seriously downhill recently, half the time only 50% of the floors are open, and they’ve changed the cafe from ‘not cheap’ to ‘expensive’.

Used to be a Sunday market on the Newcastle side of the millennium bridge, not sure if it’s still there.
