Why am I not getting centre speaker sound?

I've had my hi-fi set aside for a few months, as the room it was in has been having some renovation. Setting it all back up this afternoon there is no sound output from the centre speaker, when putting it in to Pro-logic/THX mode. The speaker is working, as I tried it in the amps left speaker output, and sound came out, briefly. The power amp then started surging on and off every few seconds, rather weirdly, almost like it doesn't like something going off. It's a Tag Mclaren 700:7R power amp, a Tag Mclaren AV32R processor, and a Kef XQ50c centre, if that helps. Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like some sort of protection kicking in.
Check again for stray strands of speaker wire ....

Otherwise either the amp or speaker is likely dead.

Sadly it seems like the amp needs attention. I plugged another speaker in to the centre output, and zilch. The amp then started having further wobblys, clicking off after about 20 seconds of playback. Off to see Kevin Green (about the only UK Tag specialist) later this week, bugger!
