I bought one of the last 1080p LG 50” plasmas and I’m sitting here watching it now. I’ve seen so many other OLED TVs and they look clinical, horrible by comparison. Anyone else enjoying old technology?

Yes - rocking a 50inch Panasonic. I agree new screens seem to give more of a fake (too bright and too strong colours) image.

However I have a pixel line out recently so may need to upgrade…

Yep, 2x Panasonic Viera 37” and 1x Panasonic Viera 42”

Funnily enough I want to put the 42” up on a stand on a chest of drawers, rather than the big old base with glass shelves etc it comes on. I was surprised / annoyed / discombobulated that you can buy the stand for £40 or the entire telly and stand for, er, £40 laugh

Per above. Still have a 37" Viera going strong in one of the rooms, and I remain a massive fan of it - but I think it's sentimental.

The realities are it is awful on electricity, heavy, thick, and the picture does not stand up to a pretty boggo Phillips set at £750 we popped in the kitchen.

I had the pixel line issue after 3 or so months back in 2006, has been flawless since. But takes much longer to turn on recently.

60” plasma Samsung 1080p here. Prefer the picture and motion over my 49” curved LED 4K Samsung.

Yup. VT 65 55”. The old king of TV’s.

Now have an Sony OLED and it is a step above tbh, but the Panny is still an awesome panel.

Another one here. A 12 year old 50" LG. Still working perfectly, picture quality very good.

Yes, I have a 42" Panasonic plasma, which a friend gave me a number of years ago when he moved abroad, a 40" Sony LCD (not even LED) which I bought for mum and has now reverted to me when she passed away, and an even older 28" Sony "HD Ready" TV which another friend gave me. I barely watch TV these days - just a bit of Netflix and Youtube while in bed, so the 28" is the only one which ever gets switched on. This might explain why I haven't bothered with 4K, OLED or anything made in the last 10 years. My only bit of tech is an old Roku 3 streamer so that I can play Netflix on the 28" TV. I don't even have an antenna to watch any broadcast TV and I'm perfectly happy that way.

I don't know why I keep the plasma TV really - it's in perfect working order, but I find it uncomfortable to watch. I find that the picture breaks up into the three primary colours when I move my eyes around the screen. I have to fixate my eyes on one point to prevent that happening, which is really quite difficult for more than a few seconds. For some reason, the LCD TVs don't have that effect. But then I also find that some LED lighting gives me headaches because I can see it flickering. I don't know if eyes have a refresh rate, but possibly mine are too fast!

Yeah same, VT65 as my main and V20 in my spare room for consoles etc.

VT is calibrated and anything 1080p looks great and natural especially Blu-rays.

I'll probably stump up for Pannys top of the line OLED once I redecorate the front room.
It might be the L series or the next one on if they still are still going to make them.

50 inches of 2007 vintage Panasonic.

I'm informed OLEDs just about on par these days, you wouldn't tell from most shop displays though.

Got a few pioneer screens. Oldest is a 2007 5000ex, used daily in conjunction with a youview box. It has a pair of brackets attached for better speakers, nothing outrageous (Gale aria) the ones with 3 cones and a tweeter in each.

Using a 50 inch Pioneer Kuro in the main bedroom. Was one of the last generation Kuro’s. Sons bedroom has a 2nd Generation 43 inch Kuro which is 720p
Both have a certain reality that my OLED TV can’t achieve. The image on the OLED is almost too sharp and makes programs shot in a studio look like they were shot in a studio. Outdoor programs at superb though and animation is just so bright and sharp it almost brings another dimension to the show

Also running a plasma is a proper flex with current energy costs.

Just ask for the remote control & ask Currys / John Lewis to switch off the lighting for a few minutes . . .

Works for me

Panasonic Viera 42” from 2008, still in daily use and I had calibrated it with one of those DVD calibration discs so it still gives a stunning picture.

Panasonic TX-P 50GT60B - last year of the plasmas. (2012? 2013?)

Still a fantastic picture, still smart enough to cut it in the modern world IMHO. Had a scare a couple of months ago when it wouldn’t switch on, but a chap on ebay diagnosed and repaired the board in question for less than £100 so it fights another day.

We have a Pioneer Kuro KRP-500A which we use in our music/cinema room, which must be at least 13 years old. We also have another TV, a 50" 4k Panasonic, which we use for daily TV watching in our main lounge.
Yes, the 4K Panny has a better picture, but only with content from the past few years.
We prefer watching films and things like the F1GP on the Kuro.

Have a panasonic 42" Plasma- not a kuro, the range just down

Just bought a 50" LG OLED

The OLED blows it out of the water frankly- far better in every single way.

Loved the plasma, but oh my our new OLED is a thing of beauty- even my wife has noticed the difference!

Pioneer 436XDE still in use here, 16yrs after purchase. Demoted to games room use, but still giving great service and a great picture.

(Sony OLED now does main duties. First screen I felt was worth the upgrade.
