Looking for some recommendations from the more techie corner of PH please!

After relocating the main living area to a new extension, I’m taking the opportunity to re-purpose my old living room as a designated home cinema.

The room is around 4.2m x 3m and will have dark walls and ceiling and a blackout blind for the window. We will be viewing from around 2.5 - 3m away.

It’s mainly for sport (F1) and movies/ box sets.

Looking for the best compromise between price/ size and quality. Ideally I’d like an 85”, 75” at the smallest.

Bear in mind we currently have a 50” LCD Samsung from about 10 years ago, and I can’t see anything wrong with it.. so I’m not used to a top of the line Viewing experience!

Any recommendations? Looking at a budget of £2k.. but the cheaper the better!

Why not a projector? We have one in our living room that only ever really gets used for F1 and films. We've had it for 8 years now and because it doesn't get used every day it still blows me away everytime I watch it. I think ours is about 110 inches with a 1080p projector and viewed from about 5 metre distance. It's a short throw projector so it's easy enough to reduce the size of the screen if sitting closer...

77in LG OLED A16 is £1950 at Costco currently.

C spec about 300 more (and worth it)

AO had the 77in CX6 on offer last week for 1800 which would have been perfect but that’s ended now.

They’re just not for me. I’m sure they’re probably the right choice for a cinema room, but I want a Crisp rich picture with the blinds open or closed. I’ve seen a few projectors in the flesh and I’m not sold.

85" is seven feet. A seven-foot screen from less than 10 feet away? Jeepers.

As with good handling cars.

Cinema Rooms are similar, image is nothing without good sound.

So realistically what are your plans for audio?

Good point.

I’m planning on a basic surround sound system. Nothing too flash. Hopefully a decent used set up.
