Can’t get Sony discs to play

Hi. Recorded on Sony discs (dvd-r) on my Sony recorder and now a few years later “ some” of them won’t play. The discs were proper Sony 4.7 gb recordable. Strangely enough of my 20+ discs only three won’t play. The disc player states “ can’t play this disc” in the readout window. I’ve also tried them in a cheapie disc player and get the same message. The content is old family stuff and would love to get them to play…. Anybody have a suggestion to fix? Regards. Ian

I'd try them in a PC or two, see if any files are visible.

As above, but beware discs do degrade overtime. Best get them all backed up.

I have some old music CDs, proper retail ones, that have started to delaminate and corrode internally. Get ripping.

Well thanks for the replies…I had no idea that cds degenerate over time..good advice here so will be backing up the rest of my collection asap. I did try my duff ones in my pc and still no joy…lesson learned. Cheers. Ian
