We are in the planning stages for an extension on our lounge, which will leave us with a nice 6m x 6m room and am looking for advice on stealth options for putting in a cinema. I know I am not going to get the best audio experience in the world, but any visible form of speakers is not going to get approval.

On the advice of VEX and others here we put some Monitor Audio in-ceiling speakers in our kitchen a few years back and have been suitably impressed, but they are mainly used as background listening. My initial thoughts was to put in 5 Monitor Audio speakers with the pivoting driver to try and get the speakers firing in somewhat the right direction. Am I going to be really disappointed, any better options? I did see that KEF do one that is motorised and flips down, any experience.

Also any recommendations on websites where I can put in my required dimensions of screen, and throw distance to get some projectors that might be suitable?

Thanks

Would in-wall speakers be acceptable?

Also do ylu have a floor plan and ideally a furniture layout so that i can see seating layouts?

Several options are avIlable to you.

Did consider in-wall speakers, but not sure on what is possible or what they would look like.

As per the picture below, the plan is to have the screen drop down in front of the fireplace.

So running two screens?

Smaller one to the right of the fireplace for day to day viewing and a projector and screen for event viewing?

Would need to check the throw distances from projector to screen, because the new lintel may be an issue being smack in the middle.

You also need to consider if the fireplace is used or just a feature. Because the heat off them could cause issues with the screen.

As for speakers, I don't think In-Walls would work, not enough spread in the chimney breast, but possibly pushed to far back in the recesses either side.

OSD do a very nice range of in-ceiling, but angled speakers. Very similar to the look of the MA's with the grills on, but the whole speaker is cant'ed by about 15degrees. So you can have both the tweeter and main driver pointing towards you, rather than just the tweeter.

You could use these for three across the front, (optional two in the middle for Atmos) and then two of their non-angled brothers at the rear firing straight down for a better rear effect. Not quite as good as on-wall or traditional speakers at actual ear height, but still a mighty good performance from them.

Available on both 6.5" and 8" flavours - deals available if you know who to ask.

Then you just need to sort a equipment location and a sub.

If not aware, Ultra-Short-Throw Projectors are a relatively new thing, so another option to consider the pro and cons of.

Thanks for the reply VEX. In answer to some of your questions:
1. Yes we plan to use a normal TV on the right for day to day viewing, and the projector for movies only.
2. The fireplace will be a modern electric thing which will almost never be used, so I see no issue with the screen being above it.
3. Yes will need to work out sub/equipment location.
4. I would like to use the RSJ to hide the projector, so that gives me a throw distance of approx 2m depending on the exact thickness of the (fake) chimney.

If any friendly types would like to PM a price for a set of 5 speakers that would be appreciated.
