Top of the line panny plasma from 15years ago finally died and needs replacing.

Been to look at TVs and amazed at how good OLEDs look, but is there an alternative I've missed? Are OLEDs still worth the premium?

Will be 55", used for general TV, lots of movies and some gaming!

Oled for dark rooms and QLED for bright rooms
Both technically deliver a stunning picture

Unlike some things, the more you pay, the more you see on the screen and sound

While there is no doubt that OLED TVs are measurably significantly less bright, I'd doubt you would have a problem unless sunlight falls directly on the screen. My Sony A9 is only ever run at 50% brightness in a light room - lot of window area, but no direct sunlight.

OLED is coming down in price and Samsung announced the QD-OLED at CES which they are punting as the next best thing. Will be interesting to see what LG do to counter the marketing.

OLED is really nice and as above if you are in a reasonably laid out room with no direct sunlight you should be fine.

Also for an ideal gaming TV go for one that can run 120hz and with HDMI 2.1 inputs. The PS5 and Xbox will have more games available soon that can run at 120 frames per second so it will look really good on these TV's.

Yeah the whole OLEDs aren't as bright thing is a complete misnomer...I mean technically they might not measure as bright as LCD with a meter, but unless you're watching the TV in the garden in direct sunlight there is no way they aren't bright enough.
The picture quality is simply next level and miles better than any technology we've had before.

Our lounge is a sun god and bifold doors just add

We had both a OLED and a QLED delivered as wanted one for the games, junk room and one for the lounge

Could not be happier with both choices but no doubt already out of date frown
