How to add Sonos One to an "old" system?
Discussion
Hi all
Apologies because this has probably been asked here before but I cannot find anything... And it probably sounds like I am confused because I am!
All of my CDs are stored on a WD hard drive connect to router. Current system is Bridge connected to router, Connect which is hooked up to my Arcam amp and Mission speakers and Beam (Gen 1) in the lounge. It's all running on the S1 app.
Daughter is now at the age where she'd like something in her bedroom so I thought I'd get her a Play One. Then I thought I'd get a pair so we could occasionally configure them as rears with the Beam if we wanted surround sound for films. Obviously it's been a while since I've looked at the range of Sonos speakers, apart from when I was shopping for a soundbar and chose the Beam, because as you will already know the Play One is no longer available.
I don't want the voice control so was planning to save a few £s and get the One SL instead of the One. But my understanding (I think!) is the One SL will not work with my S1 set up.
So, if I buy the One will it work with my current system? I am hoping the answer is yes!
If the answer is no, I am assuming I will need to replace the Connect with a Boost to make everything work with the S2 but doesn't that mean my Connect will not be compatible with the Boost?
The other option - which I realise is a longshot - is buying Play Ones as originally planned if anyone knows where they might still be available?
Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any advice, info, etc.
Cheers,
L'rs

Simple solution to this is buy a used Sonos play1 , lots available on Facebook market place for less than £60.
Also CEX sell them .
If you want to go all S2 you won’t need a boost but you would have to change the expensive connect to a Sonos port.
Plenty of Sonos play3 available and they are a real step up from the play1 and leave a big gap in the Sonos range as they haven’t been replace (yet) by Sonos

Thanks for the replies
It hadn't occurred to me to buy 2nd hand but after thinking about it - and bearing in mind the S1 app will probably disappear at some point - I would rather get something current to make it future proof (well, as much as possible until Sonos bring out S3, S4, etc...
)!!
The offer of the Play 5 is appreciated. Apart from above reason, I would prefer a pair of Ones because as originally said ideally will also use these as rears with the Beam.
I've done a bit more digging and found this on the Sonos website https://support.sonos.com/s/article/4786?language=... It says the One (Gen 2) will work with S1 AND S2 so I've ordered a pair from Richer Sounds. Cannot fault their service; I explained my dilemma and they said if any connectivity issues they will arrange collection from my home and refund in full.

UPDATE...
When I spoke to Richersounds on Wednesday I was told the 2x One speakers would be with me within 7 days. They arrived today. And within seconds of opening the box one of them was connected to my system and working brilliantly. Pheee-eeew!
I know there are better sounding speakers available for separates systems for the same £s but for the convenience, ease of use and cost these are fabulous

Yeah, had the same situation when I had a Gen 1 Play 5 and bought a Beam and a Roam, ended up replacing the Gen 2 Play 5. The Gen 1 Play 5 is actually lying in the box in the garage if would interest you?
Glad you sorted it OP! I myself have just bought a second hand Gen 1 play 5 as my entry to the world of Sonos. Sounds fantastic to these ears and simple setup too
Highjacking the thread slightly but if that speaker is really going spare Sy1441 then I'd be happy to take it off your hands for a reasonable price? I have read they are much more impressive as a stereo pair

Yeah, I’ll do some photos and ping them over tomorrow for you.
