Any recommendations for a cheap, compact AV Receiver? I have a set of Bose Acoustimass 6 in my loft that I’d like to get set up again, but the AV receiver I have was clearly never designer to fit in a tv stand! I’m thinking of maybe just using the centre, 2 fronts and subwoofer to start with as I don’t want to start pulling up carpets to hide the wires for the rear speakers.

Marantz do half height AV receivers - NR1510 is the current entry level model, around £600.

There's a Pioneer model that's around 75mm in height for £500.

For second hand then Marantz have made low profile models for a number of years.

Probably worth looking to see if a different TV stand with room for a full size AV receiver would be a solution. The ones I've seen in places like Currys seem to be more about looking snazzy than having space for equipment (notably, the sort of equipment places like Currys don't sell).

I found that once you go beyond 1 or 2 full size components it is virtually impossible to find something suitable that isn't several £k of hifi shelves. I ended up getting something custom made in oak, and it wasn't particularly expensive considering the quality of materials and workmanship. However if there is a particular modern aesthetic you were going for it won't tick that box.

There's a lot of companies online doing similar, but after seeing some recommendations the one I went with was: https://www.thereallygoodoakshop.co.uk/
