Can anyone please recommend a wifi or similar method of linking a wall mounted TV to a TV box over a distance of about 5m?

A friend had just changed the layout of his lounge and now SWMBO has found that the new layout gives her a nice corner to sit in to watch TV, however the construction of the room ( pointed stone, oak beams and visible underside to the above oak floor ) means that running cables will be awkward and also quite visible.

There is no problem with mains for the TV, it's just getting the signal across to it ( currently he's been asked to tape a cable up so she can watch TV but it looks crap.

Something basic, reliable, and, with all due deference to my mate, simple would be great. Thanks all.

What kind of ‘tv box’? Sky/Virgin/Freeview? Or AppleTv/FireTV/Chrome?

The former, wireless HMDI is an option, but a bit st. Can be laggy and 4K support is rare I believe

The latter, stick it to the back of the telly.
It's a Humax one, the wireless HDMI sounds like it could work, she'll only be watching her soaps on it so 4K isn't needed.I've already offered to take my Firestick round to demo it but that's too complicated apparently biglaugh Thanks

You can get flat/low profile HDMI cables. So depending on room layout you may be able to tuck it under the carpet and simply have a cable run.

First Google hit:

https://www.avhut.com/products/cablesson-flat-8m-h...

You may be able to get longer lengths if the runs need it.

Thanks but no carpet - oak plank floors frown

Best thing would be HDMI Cat6 Baluns running over flat (or external if the walls are to outside) Cat6 Cable

You just won't find a robust enough Wireless Solution

Thanks but no thanks, as mentioned earlier, pointed stone, oak plank floor, oak beams and visible underside to the above oak floor ..... hence the query for wireless.

Ditch the box , buy an Amazon fire stick , run IPTV on it and you get everything all in one .
Just need a power cable to the TV ,
Been doing this for 4 years now .
You need decent WiFi that’s all

Both the above have been suggested to them already, however, two issues

1. Technophobes - worse than me!!
2. We're in France so use the Humax to watch TV via satellite and I'm yet to find a reliable and inexpensive UK tv streaming service here.

Again, thanks for the ideas.....

Cable is probably the easiest. You can paint the cable to match the background colour making it blend in much better.

Sorry but no, it really really isn't this case, hence the numerous comments to that effect and my asking for a non cable method of connection.

She does NOT want cables, been there, tried that, explained it's the cheapest and simplest method but the reply was effectively thanks but no thanks.....

I think I've got a few ideas to take forward now to sort it out, thanks all.

If you have decent WiF I’d try IPTV, once it’s set up on the fire stick it’s the easiest thing to use , you get an App the looks pretty much the same as sky .
You would get every U.K. Chanel plus box sets and movies and for 4K.
Obviously it’s a bit dodgy , but with a vpn untraced

Depending on what router they have you could install a vpn on the router itself so the whole house will then just think it’s in the UK

For minimal lag, look for something from the film and TV world like this:

Is a system like that HDCP compliant?

Good question, no idea. It does top out at 1080 60 so won’t do 4K HDCP stuff anyway.
