Got a turntable for Christmas, do I need anything else?
Discussion
Hello PH and merry Christmase all!
The lucky boy that I am, I have been given a Denon DP300F for Christmas, and I have a Denon D-M41DAB micro hifi already.
Am I right in thinking that as the turntable has a pre-amp it’s just a plug and play situation? Or so I need anything else to make it all work?

Oh, me too! Lovely surprise from MrsB was a turntable. Really didn’t expect it as she made me get rid of all our CDs a few years back and supported my move to streaming via SONOS and Spotify. Now I just need to find a way to connect the turntable to the SONOS! She bought me a Sony Bluetooth system on the advice of a friend of mine, but I don’t think he realised I don’t have the SONOS connect so it looked like I was stuffed. Until I hooked it up via a Bluetooth adapter on my old Bose Soundock!
Unfortunately it now needs more spending to get it onto the SONOS system we have in the house, but so be it. Does anyone know if I’m better buying a used Connect or a used Play 5? Any preferences as to which is the better option?
(Ps, sorry for the hijack!)

Potentially a Play 5 gives you both a direct speaker for the TT and a way to port the signal in to the rest of the system too.
A Connect is handy if you have a standalone Hi-Fi, and it offers optical and coaxial digital inputs as well as analogue. But without a stereo to connect it to, or some source to justify the need for optical/coaxial, I think you're better off with the Play 5. It is the more useful option.

Brilliant, thank you. Can’t justify the cost of a new one at the moment, so potentially a used on of the Bay of E is the route I’ll go down. I’m assuming the older 5 still has this ability.A Connect is handy if you have a standalone Hi-Fi, and it offers optical and coaxial digital inputs as well as analogue. Just be cautious what generation you current Sonos is. The old Play5 may mot play nicely with it.
When you pull the Sonos app up are you using the golden SONOS app or the dark grey Sonos S1 app? I don't think the old P5 cab cross generations.
I use the SONOS 1 app with the grey background. I have two Play 1s that won't use the S2 app and my Soundbar is 7 years old now. I'd assume the previous gen Play 5 would play nice, wouldn't it?When you pull the Sonos app up are you using the golden SONOS app or the dark grey Sonos S1 app?
