We have a 15 yr old Panasonic 42'' Plasma TV which has started to have some picture problems.
I appreciate that Plasma TVs are not made anymore so am looking to replace with something suitable.
Screen size around 50''.
Budget is £1k max.
Any suggestions? Who are the preferred retailers now? Richer Sounds any good?

Anything but Samdung.

Ignore all the "SMART" bks; it's uniformly cack - you'll end up buying a streaming box of some kind anyway.

I was given a Hisense 65" QLED UHD to review. And value for money I think it's hard to beat. My friend that actually works in digital video editing thought the picture was better than he expected (which is a polite way of saying it was st compared to a calibrated monitor).

The functionality and the Apps are mostly all available too. The live video recording/pause is crap, YouView box did a better job of that.

For your size and budget, it would be about right.

They’ve certainly been good when I’ve bought TVs, speakers or whatever from them in the past. Also find John Lewis are also pretty good, I can’t see details of their additional warranty on the website any more, so they may have dropped that extra that they used to offer.
I bought a 32” LG TV for a bedroom recently and just despise their menu system, style of TV guide or Smart TV menu structure. I much prefer the Samsung interface.

Go to John Lewis or Richer Sounds.

Any of the OLED TV's can be had for £1k in up to 55".

Take your pick ... the smart features vary .... some are less intuitive than others which can make navigating frustrating.

I guess it’s what you are used to.

I’ve got a Samsung and love the smart apps - all very easy to use and work as they should.

New Samsungs are littered with adverts. Load of ste, and I would never buy another Samsung.

Mine’s about 5 years old so was going on that. Where are all the ads - on the streaming services?

If you can find another couple of hundred quid, this is an excellent telly. We've had one for six months and I'm still amazed at how good the picture is.

LG or Panasonic OLED. Can't go wrong with either and I'm sure £1k is plenty to get a good one. Been a while since I picked up our 65" Panasonic OLED so not sure of the current ranges, but just get the one closest to your budget.

PS I think all OLED panels are made by LG. Or at least they used to be.

Sony also worth a gander.

Switch to a Sony after my Panasonic plasma gave up. Still think the plasma was a better tv but the Sony is good. Budget for a sound bar if you haven’t got one

On that smart menu. I have a raspberry pi running pihole which blocks it but you shouldn't have to do that.

I have an LG C9 OLED in 77 inch flavour Amazing TV. But terrible reliability.

Was recalled. For apparently being prone to catching fire. After LG fixed it, the ARC channel broke. They fixed it. It has broken again. They have stopped responding to E-mails and I cannot reach a human on the phone.

Never again.

Check out the website rtings for reviews. Then go see them, JL or Currys or Richer sounds. Once you start looking at depth, bevel size/colour, price, where the connections are it will limit your selection.

I ordered a 65" Sony online in sale from JL 2 days ago, but on seeing it instore it was 7cm thick. The connectors were on the wrong side too so went with a Samsung as its only 2 cm thick (and £400 more....). However, im going to google "adverts" now....

I've been looking at the 65" of this TV for a few days, not yet pulled the trigger. Been Sony up until now but I read good things about this one. Didn't really want to spend quite that much but man maths huh? Is the UI good?
