Sound via optical help
Discussion
I’m hoping the PH goes can assist with Tv audio issue.
I’ve given my Sony sound base to my parents (my father is curious to see how it stacks up against their existing Sonos sound bar). I installed it tonight; very little work as all I had to do was plug into the wall and move the optical cable from the Sonos to the Sony.
When playing Netflix or Prime using the apps on the TV the sound is fine, however, when watching TV through their BT box the sound is extremely muted.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this could be? The BT box is connected to the TV via HDMI.
I had a similar setup (although it was Xbox instead of BT box) and have never had any issues.
Thanks in advance.

Ello.
My guess would be that the output setting on the BT Box needs changing, so it sends a different sound format that the Sony can better understand.
Could be that it's set to PCM and should be Dolby Digital, or vice versa. It may take some trial and error to nail down.
Agree with this. The sound is not being up mixed as it should be. My guess would be that the output setting on the BT Box needs changing, so it sends a different sound format that the Sony can better understand.

Agreed also - most likely your BT box (never used one so not sure) is outputting a surround mode and so all the speech is been sent to a centre channel which does not exist.Set it to PCM or stereo (whichever it has) and you should be good.
